Representative of the US Democratic Party Greg Meeks introduced a bill aimed at supporting Ukraine.
The document provides for the allocation of financial assistance for the post-war reconstruction of the country, as well as funding for the purchase of weapons and military equipment. In addition, the bill proposes to impose additional sanctions against the Russian Federation. The draft law has not yet been officially made public. His initiative came two weeks after the US Senate Republicans and Democrats jointly introduced another document that provides for new sanctions against Russia if it refuses to participate in peace talks with Ukraine.
In this context, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that since the beginning of the full-scale war, Ukraine has received approximately $100 billion in aid from the United States. Of this amount, about $65-67 billion came directly to Ukraine in the form of weapons, financial resources, and, in particular, about $35 billion in budget support. The rest of the funds remained in the United States and Europe to provide logistics, transportation of aid, and the functioning of relevant offices and programs related to supporting Ukraine.
Zelenskyy also emphasized that European partners have provided Ukraine with assistance worth about the same amount as the United States. According to him, this is due to the fact that Ukraine is currently defending not only itself but also the whole of Europe from Russian aggression.
