At a meeting of the EU’s Defense Readiness Task Force, Ukraine presented its defense industry projects that could be funded through the SAFE initiative.
The SAFE (Security Action for Europe) initiative is a new European mechanism designed to increase the collective military capabilities of the EU.
This mechanism provides for preferential lending and joint procurement to strengthen Europe’s defense industry, especially against the backdrop of growing threats from Russia.
Ukraine’s First Deputy Defense Minister Serhiy Boyev presented to European defense policy directors initiatives for the production of drones, ammunition and missiles, which are designed for long-term contracts until 2030.
These proposals are aimed at providing the Armed Forces of Ukraine with the necessary weapons on a sustainable basis, as well as integrating the Ukrainian defense industry into the European defense ecosystem.
EU countries, in turn, presented projects on UAVs, armored vehicles, and aviation and expressed interest in cooperating with Ukraine, especially in the field of unmanned and missile technologies.
Recently, it was said that by the end of the year, the Armed Forces will receive more than 4 million drones. Of course, this is a significant figure. But given the mass production of new drones by the Russians, we need to look for faster and more massive solutions.
