According to Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal, the United States and NATO have announced the launch of a new initiative, the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL), a special mechanism that will significantly speed up the supply of modern U.S.-made weapons and military equipment to Ukraine.
This initiative is based on key agreements reached between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, then US President Donald Trump, and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
Through the PURL, NATO Allies and partners will be able to coordinate their efforts more effectively and finance the procurement of weapons and technology needed by the Ukrainian army through voluntary contributions. This will increase the efficiency and flexibility of assistance, avoid bureaucratic delays and better respond to Ukraine’s urgent needs in the context of the ongoing war.
The PURL provides for the compilation of a list of weapons and ammunition based on Ukraine’s requests. New aid packages will be announced regularly. NATO will coordinate the deliveries. The first aid package worth €500 million will be funded by the Netherlands, and deliveries are expected in the near future. It includes parts and missiles for Patriot air defense systems. The Ministry of Defense emphasized that Ukraine urgently needs more air defense equipment and ammunition.
Denmark, Norway, and Sweden will finance a package of about $486 million under the PURL, which aims to quickly provide Ukraine with weapons and equipment, including missiles for Patriot air defense systems, as well as ammunition and support for previously transferred equipment.
Thus, the PURL will be an important tool in strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities and supporting its struggle for independence.
