The opera was created by composers Roman Hryhoriv and Ilya Razumeiko from the Opera Aperta Laboratory. The opera premiered in the UK at the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival as part of the UK/Ukraine Cultural Season. There, the Ukrainian opera was highly praised by critics and became a revelatory event.
As a result, “Chernobyldorf” was nominated in the Opera and Musical Theater category of the Royal Philharmonic Society Awards.
The Royal Philharmonic Society of Great Britain was founded in 1813. It is one of the oldest music societies in the world. Its prizes have been awarded since 1989 for live performances of classical music.
