President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that in late 2025 and early 2026, Ukraine is to start mass production of the Flamingo missile, which has a range of 3,000 kilometers.

He told reporters at a meeting on August 20.

Zelenskyy confirmed that successful tests of the new missile have already taken place. He called it “the most successful” among all Ukrainian weapons currently available.

The President noted that he could not disclose details about the missile program until Ukraine had hundreds of missiles to use.

“By December, we will have more of them. And by the end of December or in January-February, we should have mass production. We need to look at the success of the test, we need to look at the financing of this program,” Zelensky concluded.

Later, the Associated Press published a report from the production site of the Ukrainian Flamingo missile and attack drones. It is known that the Ukrainian company Fire Point, which is one of the leading domestic defense companies, is working on the development of these weapons.

The journalists said that they visited the company’s spacious warehouse, where rock music was playing. They were shown the company’s FP-1 explosive drones, which can cover a distance of up to 1600 km, and the development of the Flamingo missile was publicly demonstrated for the first time.

This year, the Ukrainian company completed testing of its first cruise missile, the FP-5. It is because of the pink color of the initial version that it was called “Flamingo”.

According to the manufacturer, the missile is capable of traveling 3,000 kilometers and landing at a distance of 14 meters from the target. The FP-5 is one of the largest such missiles in the world, capable of delivering a payload of up to 1,150 kg.

Currently, Fire Point produces about one Flamingo per day, and by October it plans to increase its capacity to produce seven per day.

Fire Point was founded at the beginning of the full-scale invasion by close friends, experts in various fields. Their goal was to mass-produce inexpensive drones that could match the power of the Iranian Shahed UAVs used by Russia in its war with Ukraine.

The company currently produces about 100 drones a day. Each drone costs $55.

What is known about the Flamingo missile

On August 17, Ukrainian photojournalist Efrem Lukatsky, who works with the Associated Press, shared a photo of a Ukrainian Flamingo missile, which he said has a range of more than 3,000 km.

He noted that the Flamingo was photographed in the workshop of one of the leading defense companies Fire Point in Ukraine on August 14. According to the journalist, these missiles have been put into mass production.

Subsequently, the Defence Express media outlet wrote that the picture was most likely of the FP-5 cruise missile, which had already been demonstrated publicly and its tactical and technical characteristics announced. Back in early February 2025, this missile was shown by the Milanion Group at the IDEX-2025 exhibition in the UAE.

The public characteristics of the FP-5 missile are as follows:

  • range: 3000 km;
  • time in the air: more than 4 hours;
  • top speed: 950 km/h;
  • cruising speed: 850-900 km/h;
  • wingspan: 6 meters;
  • maximum takeoff weight: 6 tons;
  • weight of the warhead: 1 ton.

According to the characteristics of the Flamingo and FP-5 – large missiles with a fixed straight wing and an engine above the fuselage – there is no alternative to the newly released product in the world.
