Ukraine and Europe are left face to face with Putin. Trump does not impose sanctions on Russia.

Donald Trump’s statement after his phone call with Vladimir Putin openly suggests that the United States intends to abandon mediation in achieving peace between Russia and Ukraine.

Leading global political experts and Western officials, as well as reputable Western media, have been emphasizing this. Ukraine and European countries felt that they had been abandoned, the Financial Times said.

The civilized world has already accused Trump of being pro-Russian. But now it is clear to everyone that Trump has succumbed to Kremlin pressure and now firmly supports the formula: first, concessions from Ukraine, then a ceasefire.

Trump does not care about tougher sanctions and ultimatums against Russia. And after his conversation with Putin, he sees the world through rose-colored glasses and is already calculating the money he will earn from large-scale trade with Russia.

Here is what the media say about Trump’s weakness:

The New York Times – Putin sells war as a business. After the presidents spoke, there was no breakthrough, as Trump’s reliance on personal charisma again ran into fierce disagreement. Instead of peace as a political goal, he emphasizes the economy: after the war, he says, Russia will trade with the United States.

The Times — Trump is openly softening his rhetoric toward Putin. Instead of the promised “crippling sanctions,” he has a “great” conversation and “huge opportunities” for business with Russia after the war is over.

Axios – The fact that the United States is directly involved in the negotiations strengthens Russia’s position. Previously, Ukraine, NATO, and Trump demanded an immediate ceasefire, but now Trump has recognized that a truce is a matter of negotiation, not ultimatums.

The Washington Post – Trump has agreed to play by Putin’s rules – the US leader has actually accepted the condition to postpone the ceasefire until the negotiations are completed. The publication emphasizes that Putin has not changed any of his ultimatums, and they continue to make any agreement impossible.

Politico – Trump is touting talks between Ukraine and Russia, although he is staying away.
