Ukraine has developed a “killer duo”: updated RAM-2X kamikaze drone and “Shark” reconnaissance vehicle

The new RAM-2X kamikaze drone and the Shark reconnaissance drone can truly be a “killer duo” because it is a complex of two drones.

During a demonstration of Ukrainian drones during his visit to Ukraine, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz saw not only the Ukrainian equivalent of a “shahed”. Official photos from the presentation to the chancellor show a new kamikaze drone with X-shaped aerodynamic surfaces.

It should be noted that no specifics on the capabilities and characteristics of the presented developments were provided.

Moreover, the Office of the President of Ukraine has published only a few photos of this new UAV. But they already allow us to say that this is a kamikaze drone – a barrage munition designed to hit targets in the frontline zone. That is, an analog of the American Switchblade or the Russian Lancet.

However, the difference between the development is that it is not a separate kamikaze drone. It’s a complex, and it looks like it’s a really “killer duo” called The Killer Duo.

The corresponding slide shows that it consists of a Shark reconnaissance drone from Ukrspecsystems (part of NAUDI) and this particular barrage munition, called RAM-2X.

Apparently, RAM-2X is a modernized version of one of the first Ukrainian barrage munitions, the well-known Ukrainian drone RAM II, which was created on the basis of the Leleka-100 from DeViRo.

At the same time, the use of an X-shaped wing makes the drone more maneuverable than a conventional design. But in the name, we had to switch from Roman numerals to Arabic numerals and avoid the name RAM IIX, which would have been confusing.

Given that this is a complex, it is worth noting that the task of the Shark reconnaissance UAV will obviously not only be to search for targets and targeting RAM-2X. Because in this role, the Ukrainian reconnaissance UAV can work with any other barrage munition, even with Switchblade 600, as it did during the “hunt” for the Russian “Tor”.

The fact is that the drone from Ukrspecsystems has repeatedly demonstrated the ability to operate in a very difficult interference environment from Russian electronic warfare systems, for example, right over occupied Donetsk.Therefore, it is quite logical to assume that the scout’s task will also be to work as a repeater for RAM-2X, which will qualitatively increase both the range and effectiveness of the barrage munition.
