Kyiv has received a positive response from its NATO partners to its request for additional air defense systems to protect Ukraine’s nuclear and other critical infrastructure.
This was stated by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. According to him, this issue was central to the meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council.
“We discussed what to do to ensure that Ukraine receives additional air defense systems,” he said.
The Secretary General noted the complexity of the task due to the limited number of available air defense systems distributed among the Alliance states. However, partners are ready to provide Ukraine with all available resources to strengthen its defense capabilities.
“There was a clear agreement at the meeting that the partners would support Ukraine. All the systems that can be provided to Ukraine will be provided,” Rutte said.
He did not specify the number and types of new air defense systems that could be provided to Ukraine.For his part, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine would receive several new air defense systems in December, and that further air shield reinforcement is expected in January.
