In January 2024, Ukraine imported $99 million worth of drones, which is 2% of all imports.
Thus, they entered the top 10 goods imported to Ukraine. This was reported by the Center for Economic Strategy.
At the same time, the country imported phones worth $114 million, or 2.2% of total imports. Almost all drones (by value) were imported from China. Namely, 98%.
For comparison, for the whole of 2023, imports of the “unmanned aerial vehicles” category accounted for a share of 0.7%, or $441 million. The share of Chinese imports increased to 21.4% from 16% in 2023. While the share of imports from the EU fell below 50%.
Recently, the Ministry of Digital Transformation reported that more than 50% of the 1 million Ukrainian-made drones planned for this year have already been contracted.
